Forest President Dances For A Good Cause
It's not everyday you get to watch Forest President, Dr. Mark Skrade, dancing across stage in his cowboy hat, but this weekend parents and students of the Springfield Catholic School System got that opportunity.
Dr. Skrade was part of the 4th annual "Dancing With Our Stars" event which raises money for the school system's Development Board.
Skrade's moves helped raise a grand total of just under $140,000, of which about $20,000 will go into the Endowment Fund and the remainder will go into the Development Board's general fund which supports special projects, technology upgrades, equipment for labs and classrooms, etc.
The dance-off consisted of six teams. Dr. Skrade was paired up with Anne Logan Walls, owner of "Dance with Me" and "Savoy Ballroom."
"I have not been involved in a fundraiser that was so much fun and had such a fantastic outcome," said Skrade. "The dance instructors and my fellow dancers helped to make this one of the most memorable evenings of my life."
Dr. Skrade fell just short of dancing in the finals with the top three, but he says that doesn't matter because the event still raised a lot of money for a good cause.
"I am very proud to be associated with such an outstanding and committed group of individuals and to participate in an event that directly supports teachers and impacts the lives of kids from the age of three, through high school," said Skrade.
And while it's unclear if we will catch him dancing in the spotlight again, Dr. Skrade does say "I can't wait to attend and watch the event next year. Participating in Dancing with Our Stars was definitely a challenge and pushed me beyond my comfort zone."
