Checking Out Library Materials

Library patrons may check out circulating materials or pick-up materials on hold at the Library Circulation Desk in Springfield or the reception desk at the St. Louis site.
Forest faculty, staff, and students must show a current Forest Institute ID badge in order to check out materials from the Library. Guest borrowers must present a Forest Library Borrower’s Card. Patrons from SWAN or MOBIUS institutions must present a current ID from their institution.
Forest students can check out books from the FIPP General Collection for 6 weeks with one 3 week renewal (limit of 30 books). Forest faculty can check books out for one semester with one additional semester renewal. Videos circulate for 3 days (limit of 5 titles).
At the Springfield site, course reserves circulate for 2 or 4 hours (no renewals). At the St. Louis site, course reserves circulate for 3 days.
Books requested via SWAN or MOBIUS by any Forest student or faculty member circulate for 3 weeks with two 3 week renewals.

Category #1: Forest Faculty (Core and Active Adjunct); Forest Staff
Category #2: Current Forest Students (defined as students currently enrolled in classes, on continuous enrollment or on internship)
Category #3: Inactive Forest Adjunct Faculty (defined as faculty who are not teaching during the term)
Category #4: Local area Forest students who 1) have graduated and are in good standing with the library, 2) are in residence or engaged in postdoctoral work, 3) have completed their coursework but have not completed their dissertation and who are not on continuous enrollment; 4) students from other SWAN or MOBIUS institutions; and 5) members of the local Springfield area professional community who work for a company or organization in the helping professions.
Current Forest faculty, staff and students may place a hold on an item that is circulating. This puts you "next in line” to receive the book when a SWAN or MOBIUS book is returned. You will be notified via email when the item is available for check-out.
Overdues, Fines and Fees
Library material and audiovisual equipment which is returned late is subject to a fine. Patrons who do not return materials or equipment will be subject to replacement costs,processing fees and accrued fines. Fines are assessed each day the Library is open until the borrowed item is returned. See our Overdue Items page for more information.
