Forest Celebrates Opening of New Lounge Area
The sound of laughter now replaces the sound of sawing and hammering that previously filled the air in the new lounge area during its construction over the course of the last few weeks.
In celebration of its grand opening on Friday, members of the Forest community gathered to officially christen the new lounge area that is now open to all students, faculty and staff.
Features of the new area include a separate vending area, new refrigerators and microwaves, an ice machine, accessible sink, and ample seating for study groups or just hanging out.
Connected to the lounge is a new student council office, as well as a new conference room available for community use.
"We are excited to open the space ahead of schedule, so that students can utilize it during finals,” said Joe Frazier, Vice President of Finance and Operations.
Based on results, students agree. The new area is already buzzing with activity as students, faculty and staff visit in between classes or on breaks, to catch a quick breather. Students can be seen relaxing, eating lunch at the bar and using the Internet Café.
The student mailboxes were removed during the remodel, but students can expect to see them again. "We are currently finalizing a plan to reinstall the mailboxes in another location,” said Frazier.
"I think this area will be used a lot more now,” said Brittany Kaufman, who is a 2nd year student in the Child and Adolescent Concentration. "As a matter of fact, when my TV went out on Sunday, I came up here to watch the game and study. There were others here who were doing the same thing.”
A quick visit to the lounge also reveals someone inevitably spinning in one of the rotating chairs, watching TV or escaping to a secluded corner for some extra focus time, giving reason to believe that the sounds of sawing and hammering were well worth it.
